Can Bad Habits Damage Your Car?
Leaving your hand on the gear shift
Many drivers will do this solely because it is a comfort habit or they need a place to put their hand when they are driving. This actually will cause a lot of damage to your transmission. Your hand, as light as you may think it is, can put weight on the gear shift. This will end up causing damage to the inside of the transmission and damaging the bushings. The best thing to do is drive like you’re supposed to with both hands on the wheel.
You’re not using the Parking Brake
A lot of drivers will only use the parking brake when they park on a hill. This is good to do, but it is important that you use it every time you park. If you don’t, this puts all of the weight of the car on a very small piece of metal in the transmission. This piece is called the pawl, and when more weight is put on it, it will eventually break. This will cause the parking brake to stop working completely.
Hear that noise, don’t ignore it
Not taking care of your car is the worst bad habit you could have. When you hear the creaks, the squeaks, and the knocks, take your car in and have it checked out. The more you ignore these noises, the worse the problems will get, and that can cause a lot of damage to your car.
All of these habits are just a few reasons that it is important to take care of your car. If you take care of it, it will continue to drive properly and get you from point A to point B.
