Around the turn of the 19th century, India was struck with a horrible epidemic of cholera—an infectious disease that leaves its victims to suffer their final days with massive diarrhea, vomiting, and ultimately dying from dehydration. It wasn’t too long that this virus spread to most of Asia and as far as the Americas to claim the lives of over one million people—causing the most deaths of any 19th century pandemic.
But it’s not all bad, as this catastrophe led scientists to eventually find the root cause of this epidemic to be tainted water. Hold your Brita filter close.
